Back MEDIA ADVISORY: presentation of results of joint projects for Belarus

On Thursday, 4 October, the Council of Europe and European Union will present in Minsk the results of joint projects for Eastern Partnership countries, including Belarus, conducted in 2015-2018.

The European Union and the Council of Europe has been implementing three country-specific projects in Belarus under the Partnership for Good Governance (PGG) programme in 2015-2018. These projects are funded by the EU and the Council of Europe, and are implemented by the Council of Europe. Their total budget is 470,000 Euros.

The projects focus on raising awareness and practical knowledge of Belarusian legal professionals and students about the European Convention of Human Rights, promoting of the standards of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, as well as raising capacities of public officials in the field of good governance and fighting corruption. In addition to these three country-specific projects, Belarus also participates in 14 regional initiatives covering all Eastern Partnership countries.

Opening remarks will be delivered by:

  • Arkadi Sytine, EU-CoE Programme Co-ordinator, Council of Europe;
  • Berend de Groot, Head of Co-operation, EU Delegation to Belarus;
  • Andrei Bushilo, National Coordinator for the Partnership for Good Governance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus 

The first part of the event is open to media from 14:30 to 15:00 on Thursday, 4 October, at the King Hall of the Crowne Plaza Hotel (vulica Kirava 13, Minsk). Language regime: English-Russian. Journalists will be able to pose questions to the speakers during the break. Advance registration of journalists is required.
