Objectives

The overall objective of the project is to enhance – in line with the Beneficiaries' commitments to EU accession and Council of Europe standards*  – social inclusion and social cohesion in the region by promoting inclusive education and training.

In order to realize this objective, the project will promote the concept of inclusive education as a reform principle that respects and caters for diversity amongst all learners, with a specific focus on those who are at a higher risk of marginalisation and exclusion.

The overall objective will be achieved through the specific objective of promoting the concept of inclusive education, as well as relevant policies and practices in the formal education system at pre-university level in South East Europe in five specific areas:

*In particular the European Social Charter and the New Strategy and Council of Europe Action Plan for Social Cohesion (approved by the Committee of Ministers on 7 July 2010).

Inclusive PolicyNet to be launched in Sarajevo on 6th March

The First Regional PolicyNet meeting for the Joint EU/CoE Project "Regional Support for Inclusive Education" will be held in Hotel Evropa, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina on 6th March.

This regional meeting will foster dialogue on inclusion in education among policymakers and other education professionals from South East Europe; to explore existing inclusive education practices with regard to policies, innovative approaches and methodologies and design the action steps that will lead to a set of recommendations on how to make policies more inclusive.

Improving the enforcement mechanisms of laws and policies, financial affordability and cost-effectiveness of inclusive education, avoiding politicisation of inclusive education, cooperation of education with social care systems, are among the relevant issues that will be discussed by the network.

The meeting will be organised in plenary sessions and in thematic working groups. The working groups will produce an action plan per level and type of education, based on issues and challenges identified by Beneficiary Policy teams.

The Inclusive PolicyNet is an overarching platform that will bring together representatives of both the Inclusive SchoolNet and Inclusive TeacherNet and other additional stakeholders, in particular from the policy sphere. At least two annual meetings of the network are planned throughout the lifespan of the Project and three study visits to EU/CoE Member States will be conducted.

A separate portal with information resources and options for web-based learning interactions is being developed to serve all the Networks created by the project.
