Objectives

The overall objective of the project is to enhance – in line with the Beneficiaries' commitments to EU accession and Council of Europe standards*  – social inclusion and social cohesion in the region by promoting inclusive education and training.

In order to realize this objective, the project will promote the concept of inclusive education as a reform principle that respects and caters for diversity amongst all learners, with a specific focus on those who are at a higher risk of marginalisation and exclusion.

The overall objective will be achieved through the specific objective of promoting the concept of inclusive education, as well as relevant policies and practices in the formal education system at pre-university level in South East Europe in five specific areas:

*In particular the European Social Charter and the New Strategy and Council of Europe Action Plan for Social Cohesion (approved by the Committee of Ministers on 7 July 2010).

First VET working group to be held in Turin in June

Policy recommendations to be based on LSE survey

The first meeting of the policy working group on Vocational Education and Training (VET) will take place at the headquarters of the European Training Foundation (ETF) in Turin, Italy on the 16th & 17th June.

The thematic (cross beneficiary) policy meeting of the Regional Inclusive PolicyNet includes members from 7 Beneficiaries of the Joint EU/CoE Project “Regional Support for Inclusive Education” in South East Europe.

The PolicyNet is a platform for exchanging experience and learning. It contributes in developing a common understanding of inclusive education within the region and it actively seeks to influence politicians on inclusive education. The PolicyNet will develop concrete policy recommendations and plans for their implementation at various levels of education (primary, secondary, VET).

The policy working group on VET will develop policy recommendations based on:
  1. the research findings from two studies carried out by the ETF and EU/CoE regional projects and conducted by the London School of Economics (LSE) in the SEE region (“Mapping VET policies and practices for social inclusion and social cohesion”; and “Baseline survey on inclusive policies and practices”);
  2. the experiences of the “TeacherNet” and “SchoolNet”.

The PolicyNet has established a strategic partnership with the ETF because the Foundation is the leader of policy reforms in the VET sector in the SEE region and it is thus appropriate to hold the first working group at the ETF’s headquarters.

Objectives:

  • 1) to discuss the findings from the Mapping research on VET policies and practices for social inclusion and social cohesion and the Baseline survey on inclusive policies and practices,
  • 2) to obtain feedback from the participants on the findings and agree how the VET working group will use this evidence in their further policy decisions.

Expected result:

VET regional priority recommendations agreed, identified through beneficiary studies/reports.
