In the efforts to support civil society organisations in Türkiye to improve the accessibility and quality of legal aid services for women, an online discussion was organised with the support of European Union and Council of Europe.
34 civil society representatives (29 women and 5 men) exchanged and shared some of the best practices for raising awareness on gender equality in the field of justice and how to prevent violence against women and domestic violence.
The event amplified the results of the Council of Europe conference “Synergy for change: Civil society raising awareness on violence against women in a context of global challenges” where 91 women’s rights activists and professionals from 26 member countries strengthen collaborative efforts on awareness raising on violence against women in the context of global challenges.
One of the representatives stated that the meeting was very beneficial as it demonstrated that the concerns, challenges, and exchanges are common around the world which fosters hope as it will encourage solidarity. In addition, another participant shared their willingness to co-operate and extend the network to enhance the content and outreach of the capacity building trainings on gender equality and mainstreaming.
The action “Fostering women’s access to justice in Türkiye" is part of the European Union and Council of Europe’s joint programme "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye". The action contributes to enhancing accessibility and quality of legal aid services for women and supporting key stakeholders, including civil society, as well as increasing legal awareness and literacy among women in Türkiye.
