Enhancing justice: Launch of specialised communication training for prosecutors and police officers

Effective communication is one of the cornerstones of successful relationships between rule of law institutions and citizens. By honing communication skills, prosecutors and police officials can enhance their ability to present their work accurately, build stronger relationships with public and help improve citizens' trust into these institutions.

In recognition of the critical role effective communication plays in the pursuit of justice, the European Union, the Council of Europe and Chemonics UK designed and delivered a specialised Communication Training Course for representatives of the State Prosecution and the Police. It was meticulously designed to equip legal professionals with the advanced communication skills essential for advocating and upholding the principles of justice.

This activity is part of broader efforts invested into increasing transparency and openness of the police and prosecution. Recently, a Protocol was drafted which seeks to improve standard communication procedure among State prosecution and Police, to ensure that information which are communicated with public are accurate, transparent, and coherent.

Due to this initiative, 20 representatives of the State Prosecution, Ministry of Interior and Police were equipped with the skills needed to navigate and excel in today’s dynamic communication landscape and to communicate with clarity and confidence in legal settings, engage with diverse audiences, and handle high-pressure situations in the field of communication.

The training activity has been implemented in co-operation between the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme: Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye, under the action "Strengthening accountability of the judicial system and enhancing protection of victims' rights in Montenegro" and Chemonics UK-led Western Balkans Rule of Law Initiative (WBROLI) project, funded by the UK Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) and delivered in close co-ordination with the UK Home Office and UK embassies across the Western Balkans.
