Regional conference to launch the fifth phase of the South Programme, a joint initiative between the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The launching event will highlight the contribution of the fifth phase of the South Programme in the progressive establishment of a common legal space between Europe and the Southern Mediterranean. Mapping future perspectives and addressing common challenges will be the focus of the event, which will provide a platform for exchanges on the relevance of shared standards for the two shores of the Mediterranean.
Partners and stakeholders will be able to present their experience and discuss opportunities to strengthen cooperation on the protection of human rights, rule of law and democracy in the region. The discussions will benefit from the long-standing expertise and networks of the North South Centre of the Council of Europe in empowering civil society, in particular youth and women organisations.
