Brief desciption of the resource/practice:
Launched in 2022 in the run-up to the Paris 2024 Games, the “Equality field” label is aimed at organizers of major one-off or recurrent major international sporting events held in France, and is designed to promote equality between women and men and combat all forms of discrimination and sexist and sexual violence, both in the organization phase and during the running of events.
Accompanied by a methodological kit, this label has been designed as a tool to support organizing committees in the concrete implementation of a policy to promote the place of women in sport, raise awareness and prevent discrimination and violence, in order to:
- Advance equality between men and women, in particular by ensuring parity in the various components of the organisation;
- Do everything possible to ensure an exemplary environment in terms of preventing violence and discrimination, for volunteers involved in the organisation, sports delegations and the general public;
- Promote these causes nationally and internationally before and during sporting events, with a view to continuous improvement
The label is awarded by an award committee after analysis and deliberation, and on the basis of an evaluation report drawn up by an independent labelling operator (AFNOR). The label is awarded subject to compliance with a set of specifications covering some twenty criteria and actions, both internally and in relation to the event's stakeholders.
The Paris 2024 Games were the 2nd event to receive the label after the Rugby World Cup and many organizers of upcoming major international sporting events have announced their candidacy for the label.
