NUMBER OF WOMEN ON BOARDS OF SPORT FEDERATIONS
Country: Latvia

Type of resource/practice: Legislation, policies, standards and guidelines
Discipline: Multi-sport
Target group(s): Sport federations, Boards of sport federations
Timing: 2018

Brief description of the practice: In Latvia, the yearly state budget funding for all recognised sports federations is allocated based on an evaluation of the federations’ activities and high achievements. The evaluation is based on several criteria, developed by the Latvian Sports Federations Council and harmonised with the Ministry of Education and Science, which is the ministry responsible for sport. Each criterion is worth a certain number of points that are added up to get to a total score. In particular, criterion 11 is about the number of women on the board of the organisation and its compliance assigns 2 points to the organisation. The total score obtained in the evaluation influences the amount of funding the organisation is going to receive for the following year.
