Brief description of the practice: Each year these prizes are awarded to journalistic works that have contributed to the promotion of women’s sports and of equality between women and men in the sport’s field. The prize is awarded to four different categories of work: press, photographic, audio-visual and radio. There are several criteria for selecting the winning projects, which are worth points up to a maximum of 60 points. Other than the journalistic quality of the work, including the originality of the topic, winning projects are selected based also on how the subject is depicted and on whether gender equality and visibility of women’s sports are promoted. Particular attention is given to whether female athletes’ achievements are described with the same respect and attention to those of male athletes, and to whether the work includes a perspective of denouncing inequalities and discrimination in sports as well as the space dedicated to the subject. Each category prize is worth 2000 euros.
