FOOTFESTIVALS FOR GIRLS
Country: Belgium
Organisation responsible: Flemish and Walloon wings of the Belgian Football Association (Voetbal Vlaanderen and ACFF)
Main topic addressed: Gender equality in participation (grassroots or elite sport)
Type of resource/practice: Educational tools (training activities, curricula, educational materials, etc.)
Discipline: Football
Target group(s): Girls
Timing: Since 2013
Language: French and Flemish
Brief description of the practice: The first “Footfestival 100% Girls” was organised in April 2013 in collaboration with the Union Royale Belge des Sociétés de Football-Association (URBSFA) and its French and Dutch branches, ACFF (Association des Clubs Francophones de Football) and VV (Voetbal Vlanderen). The activities of these festivals are specifically organised for girls and are free of charge. Every girl who would like to try football can attend a Footfestival to discover whether she likes the sport. They always work with several easily-accessible football exercises and are accompanied by educated trainers. Given their success, the festivals are organised several times per year in the three Belgian communities.
