Department of Sociology, University of Bamberg, Germany
A few words about myself
I am Full Professor of Sociology, esp. Methods of Empirical Social Research at the University of Bamberg in Germany. I graduated both in economics and social sciences and earned my doctoral degree in sociology. I have gained experience in international and interdisciplinary collaborative research on youth labour markets by working on various international research projects (e.g. as a director of four research projects at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES)), being part of several international research networks and associations (e.g. European Network on Transitions in Youths), and working as an expert for European Union agencies (e.g. European Training Foundation, Eurofound). My specific research interests include transitions to adulthood, youth unemployment and temporary employment, international comparative research and quantitative methods. My comparative work focuses on Western and Eastern Europe as well as the Middle East and Northern Africa. I have co-authored three comparative books on youth labour markets and published widely in leading academic journals on topics of youth transition to adulthood.
Currently, I am co-coordinator of the international and interdisciplinary research EU-Horizon2020 project "Social Exclusion of Youth in Europe: Cumulative Disadvantage, Coping Strategies, Effective Policies and Transfer“ (EXCEPT), which is funded by 2.5 Mio Euro by the European Commission. I am also coordinator of the international and interdisciplinary research project "Opportunities and Barriers at the Transition from Education to Work. A Comparative Youth Study in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Tajikistan", which is funded by 400,000 Euro by the VolkswagenStiftung. I am also scientific co-head of pillar 5 ‘Returns to education in the life course’ of the National Education Panel Study (NEPS) at the Leibniz-Institute for Educational Trajectories (LIfBi).
