The joint European Union - Council of Europe project “Sport For All” aims to break down barriers and promote greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in sport. In the framework of its awareness-raising pillar (Pillar 3), the project has launched a new podcast spotlighting conversations with sports practitioners, including athletes, coaches, sports administrators and other stakeholders in Para sport. In each episode, our guest(s) will share lived experiences, discuss the development of Para sport, and showcase how sport fosters inclusion for persons with disabilities.
In the very first episode of the podcast we meet Ivo Quendera, Portuguese national Paracanoe coach, sports manager, and a social inclusion in sport specialist. Together, we dive into the ParaManager project, explore the legacy of the European Para Youth Games 2025, and reflect on the progress Ivo has witnessed in Para sport over the last two decades. With a message that resonates far beyond sport, Ivo encourages practitioners and clubs to be open to everybody: “If we have a difference, don’t be afraid of it.”
The ParaManager project, led by the European Paralympic Committee and supported by seven National Paralympic Committees, seeks to strengthen the management of Paralympic and disability sports. It will offer a comprehensive educational framework, an e-learning course for capacity building of sports managers, and the exchange of best practices.
This podcast episode was recorded during the European Para Youth Games 2025 held from 24 to 27 July in Istanbul, Türkiye. During this event, the Sport For All team engaged with athletes, coaches, delegations, and various sports organisations, while also capturing footage with role models. This material will be gradually published on the project website.
