The third edition of the South Programme (2018-2020) “Ensuring Sustainable Democratic Governance and Human rights in the Southern Mediterranean” held its first Bilateral Steering Committee Meeting with Jordan on 3 May 2018 in Amman (Jordan). It gathered representatives of Jordanian ministries, governmental bodies and agencies, as well as of the EU and the Council of Europe. The Committee discussed and welcomed some of the results of the partnership with Jordan, namely regarding inter-parliamentary cooperation and the fight against economic crime. The main thematic areas that will be pursued with Jordan within the framework of the South Programme III were also discussed. They involve cooperation in the domain of constitutional justice, knowledge networks between the Council of Europe and Jordan, and the prevention of corruption, money laundering and terrorism. The dialogue with Jordanian authorities allowed to fine-tune actions and to better respond to the evolving needs of the country thanks to fruitful exchanges of views with relevant interlocutors for each area of cooperation.
The South Programme III is a joint programme of the Council of Europe and the European Union, financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
