Combating violence against women: awareness-raising workshop at the University of Mohammedia

On 5 December 2018 the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences of Mohammedia opened its doors to the South Programme III in the framework of the Moroccan 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence aiming at ending violence against women and girls.

The workshop gathered professors, students, international organisations and other diplomatic representations, as well as NGOs, and allowed participants to openly discuss on the need to prevent gender-based violence through appropriate mechanisms, while at the same time protecting and avoiding the stigmatisation of victims.

In this context, the law 103.13 on combating violence against women, adopted in February 2018 by the Moroccan Parliament, was presented and discussed, as well as the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (also known as the Istanbul Convention) which is open for accession by member and non-member states of the Organisation.

The South Programme III is a joint programme of the Council of Europe and the European Union, financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
