Back Launch of the South Programme V

Launch of the South Programme V

Today marks the start of the fifth phase of the joint European Union-Council of Europe programme "Protecting human rights, the rule of law and democracy through shared standards in the Southern Mediterranean" (South Programme V).

The new phase of the regional programme is coordinated by the Council of Europe Office in Tunis. It aims at continuing the support to democratic reforms of nine beneficiaries in the Southern Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine* and Tunisia) through the establishment of a common legal space between Europe and this region.

The South Programme V is co-financed by the European Union (90%) and the Council of Europe (10%) with a total of € 5,556,000 for a duration of three years (2022-2025).

The South Programme is a joint initiative between the European Union and the Council of Europe, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2022. More information on the successive phases of the South Programme.
