Summer school on youth participation

27 young Roma men and women from ROMACTED municipalities took part in the Summer school from 19 to 22 September in Novi Sad, the European Capital of Youth for the year 2019. This event was a part of ROMACTED activities in Serbia, implemented together with Coalition of Roma Youth of Serbia.

Gathering of Roma Youth is a very important step in the programme, due to the set of priorities that youth from Community Action Groups (CAG) have set in the previous period. During the Summer school, special focus was put on participation of young Roma in ROMACTED CAG, enhancing activism and addressing their own priorities to local authorities and their communities.

Beside the Project team form Strasbourg and Serbia and three volunteers, the event also hosted three guest speakers: Ms Ljiljana Kokovic, Assistant Mayor from City of Novi Sad, Ms Stanislava Marojevic, Assistant Program of Coordinator, OPENS (Organization European Youth Capital Novi Sad), and Mr Vojislav Prekoslovski, Coordinator of Volunteer Centre Vojvodina.

The leading trainers during the Summer school were the ROMACTED facilitators Tanja Djordjevic and Marina Simeunovic, who are experienced in working with youth and women. The programme`s team is continuously working on empowerment of young Roma people. During September, activities for youth continued in municipalities of Odzaci, Prokuplje, Kostolac and Zvezdara and will gradually progress in other programme municipalities.
