Guest lecture on criminology at the Faculty of Law Iustinianus Primus in Skopje

Prof. Jan Van Dijk, a former Vice-President of the Group of Experts on Action Against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) and an international expert in the field of criminology, was invited by the Law Faculty to speak about his experience in conducting research and data gathering through surveys that unravel the trends of crime rates around the world. The first-year students of the Master Studies in Criminal Law had the opportunity to hear about different approaches in criminology in Europe and around the world in studying the subject.

Professor Van Dijk has been one of the key experts engaged in the activities of the Action on Preventing and Combating Human Trafficking in North Macedonia. Most recently, he has provided an expert opinion on the text of the Draft Law on the Payment of Monetary Compensation to Victims of Violent Criminal Offences by the State for the Working Group in charge of drafting the law, established by the Ministry of Justice of North Macedonia.

The guest lecture was facilitated by the Action on Preventing and Combating trafficking in North Macedonia, which is a part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II”, a co-operation initiative co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe. It aims at assisting beneficiaries in South-East Europe to comply with the Council of Europe standards and European Union acquis in the framework of the enlargement process, where relevant.
