HELP course on “International Co-operation in Criminal Matters” launched in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Council of Europe HELP online course on International Cooperation in Criminal Matters was launched for around to 30 legal professionals from Bosnia and Herzegovina in co-operation with the Centre for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Centre for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training of Republika Srpska.

During the launching event, supported by EU and Council of Europe action “HELP in the Western Balkans”, the participants were welcomed by Samra Alispahić, Focal Point from the Centre for Judicial and Prosecutorial Training of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina who stressed the importance of this initiative in fighting crime. 

Jasminka Peruničić Allen, Senior Project Officer of HELP in the Western Balkans action, shared an overview of the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) Programme of the Council of Europe and its online platform that includes a catalogue of more than 40 courses on human rights, including the specific course on “International Cooperation in Criminal Matters” contextualised for legal professionals from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ana Medarska Lazova, Deputy Head of Justice and Human Rights Training Division in the Council of Europe presented the process of creation of the course and the modules. The course was initially developed in 2017 and updated in 2021. The development of the course was co-ordinated by the HELP Secretariat and involved several representatives of relevant CoE services including: Mutual Legal Assistance Unit; Penological Co-operation, Medicrime and Trafficking of Organs Unit; and Criminal Law Cooperation Unit, as well as from the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights. The course and its main components were further presented by the tutor Denis Pajić, professor at the University in Mostar and expert in the field.

This translation and adaptation of the course in for Bosnian legal professionals and the launching event are supported under the "HELP in the Western Balkans" action, part of the joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
