HELP course on Admissibility criteria in applications submitted to the European Court of Human Rights launched for Albanian lawyers

Another important HELP course on ‘Admissibility Criteria in Applications submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR)’ was launched for more than 30 Albanian lawyers . The course, part of the Council of Europe Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals programme was adapted and is being delivered to Albanian lawyers with the support of EU and Council of Europe joint action HELP in the Western Balkans in close co-operation with the Chamber of Advocates in Albania

Participants were welcomed by Rezarta Abdiu on behalf of the Chamber of Advocates who stressed the importance for lawyers to understand the criteria governing the admissibility of applications lodged before the Strasbourg Court.

Following a presentation of the HELP Programme and its main components, Erinda Meli - HELP tutor - illustrated the practical aspects of the course implementation and the content of the Albanian version. Following the launching of the event, the HELP online course will be implemented through the Council of Europe HELP platform over a 2-months period.

Supervision by the Strasbourg Court is triggered mainly by individual applications. However, the Court rejects around 90% of all applications received as inadmissible. Therefore, the HELP course on Admissibility criteria in applications submitted to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) aims to support practitioners to understand the admissibility criteria and the procedure before the European Court of Human Rights determining the admissibility of an application. The course is currently available to all users in English and other languages and it provides for an overview of the various grounds for inadmissibility.

This event was organised within the scope of the regional action “HELP in the Western Balkans” which is a part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022.
