“Opportunity or exploitation” a new public awareness campaign against labour exploitation in North Macedonia

“Opportunity or exploitation” a campaign that explains the perils of human trafficking for labour exploitation to young and unemployed persons, kicked off in North Macedonia. The awareness raising initiative will continue until October 31 and aims to prevent trafficking of human beings through warning the public and vulnerable groups about the existence of fake offers / recruitment through fraud or deception with the aim of exploitation.

Supported by the EU and Council of Europe Horizontal Facility Programme and implemented by the NGO Open Gate, member of the international anti-trafficking network La Strada, the campaign has a particular focus on how to recognize fake offers when searching for a job within the country and abroad.

“We will gradually post on social media and broadcast public awareness materials, which encompass videos in Macedonian and English language, information about risks of human trafficking for labour exploitation, awarded poster designs allowing to visualise the phenomenon, and clear guidance on how to protect oneself from trafficking for labour exploitation” - said Stojne Dimishkovska, representative of the NGO Open Gate.

The public awareness campaign “Opportunity or exploitation” implemented by the Open Gate, is supported by a grant provided under the action “Preventing and combating trafficking in human beings in North Macedonia”. This action is part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019 – 2022”.
