The Conference “Introducing the Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022” will be held on 30 October 2019, in Aeroklub, Uzun Mirkova 4, Belgrade, from 10:30 to 12:30.
Opening remarks will be given by:
- Jadranka Joksimović, Minister of European Integration of Serbia
- Ambassador Sem Fabrizi, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia
- Verena Taylor, Director of the Office of Council of Europe Directorate General of Programmes
At the event, the second phase of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022” with the overall budget of €41 million will be presented to media, members of the international community and diplomatic corps, academia and beneficiary institutions.
The “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey” is a joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe that enables the beneficiaries to meet their reform agendas in the fields of human rights, rule of law and democracy and to comply with the European standards, including where relevant within the framework of the EU enlargement process.
The first phase of the Horizontal Facility programme ran from 2016 to 2019. The second phase of the programme will be conducted between 2019 and 2022; it builds on the results of the Phase I and broadens the thematic areas to new topics crucial for the Western Balkans region and Turkey – freedom of expression and the media.
This three-year programme covers Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, as well as Kosovo*.
The conference will begin at 10:30 at the Aeroklub and is fully open to the media. Interviews can be arranged upon request. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.
