Study visit  to the Federal State of Brandenburg, Germany on policing

A 3-day study visit to the Police Service of the Federal State of Brandenburg, Germany took place on 23-25 January for a group of 7 senior police officials from the Department for Internal Control, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards within the Ministry of Internal Affairs of "the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia".  

As a result, the delegation benefited from exchange of experiences on policing in general in the Federal State of Brandenburg, as well as on the proceedings for carrying out investigations, with special emphasis on corruption, and about work of the University of Applied Police Sciences.

During the visit, the delegation met with senior police officials from the State Criminal Investigation Bureau in Eberswalde, prosecutors from the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Neuruppin, with representatives of the International Centre at the University of Applied Police Sciences and with representatives of the Police Inspection in Oranienburg,. The topics discussed with all of the interlocutors included the experiences on policing in the State of Brandenburg, the proceedings for carrying out investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Bureau and its cooperation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, especially in the area of corruption and asset recovery, as well as the structure, functioning and initial training for police officers provided by the University of Applied Police Sciences in Oranienburg. In addition, the delegation members benefited from the visit to the Police Inspection in Oranienburg as they got acquainted with the routine operations and procedures, carried out by the Police Inspection office in its everyday work, and shared experiences with their German counterparts.

The study visit was organized within the scope of the Action “Enhancing human rights policing”, co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe within the “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey” and implemented by the Council of Europe.
