Strengthened capacity of Serbian candidate judges and prosecutors on anti-discrimination: launch of the HELP online course

50 Serbian trainee judges and prosecutors attended the online launch of the Council of Europe HELP online course on anti-discrimination, organised in cooperation with the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia.

Nenad Vujic, Director of the Judicial Academy, welcomed participants by recalling the importance of the course for future generation of judges and prosecutors. The Council of Europe HELP online course is included as a compulsory training in the annual programme for the 10th generation of trainees.

Prof Ivana Krstic and Milica Novakovic, HELP tutors, illustrated the international legal framework in the field on anti-discrimination while taking participants through the course format, structure and content.

Following the launching event, the HELP online course on anti-discrimination will be implemented for the 10th generation of trainees over a 2-months period.

The launching event was organised within the scope of the Regional action “HELP in the Western Balkans” that is a part of the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, implemented by the Council of Europe.

The Council of Europe HELP online course on anti-discrimination, developed by the Council of Europe Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP), aims to promote the understanding of European human rights standards and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights among legal professionals. It is available in the HELP online platform in the various languages.

Horizontal Facility III

The joint European Union and Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye” (Horizontal Facility III) is a co-operation initiative, running from 2023 until 2026.

The programme covers actions in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Türkiye. It enables the Beneficiaries to meet their reform agendas in the fields of human rights, rule of law and democracy and to comply with European standards, which is also a priority for the EU enlargement process.

The third phase of the programme is worth €41 million (85% funded by the European Union, 15% by the Council of Europe).
