Third meeting of the steering committee to discuss achievements and challenges

The third steering committee meeting for the two actions on education under the Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey, “Strengthen Integrity and Combat Corruption in Higher Education” and “Fostering a Democratic School Culture and Diversity in Schools” was held on 18 April 2018 in Pristina. The members of the joint Steering Committee agreed that both actions' developments had achieved their expected results.

Legal expertise in revising the Law on Higher Education was regarded as a significant achievement of the action “Strengthen Integrity and Combat Corruption in Higher Education.” The Vice-Rector of the University in Pristina confirmed that the action had made a difference in Kosovo* raising awareness in the fight against corruption in education. He highlighted the fact that previously the issue of integrity in education was not a subject for discussion in the society. He also recognised the importance of having attended the ETINED plenary meeting in Strasbourg, France and benefitting from the discussions and developments within the Platform.

The Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency stressed the importance of continuing to organise awareness-raising events and public debates with students on fighting corruption in education. Representative of the Ministry of Education stated that the Action on democratic school culture and diversity in schools is fully in line with the priorities of the Kosovo Education Strategic Plan 2017 – 2021, and that accreditation of the training curricula has been one of the main achievements of this project.
