Schools in Kosovo* celebrate first Diversity Day

Following a proposal by the Council of Europe — the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced their decision to mark 26 April as an official Diversity Day raising awareness and promoting social inclusion.

In the context of the joint EU/Council of Europe Horizontal Facility action on Education “Fostering a democratic school culture and diversity in schools” the announcement was sent to all municipal directorates for education and as a result, schools in Kosovo organised activities celebrating the first Diversity Day.

Students, teachers, parents and communities of the pilot schools involved organised various art and craft, music and sports activities. In some schools, students organised debates with authorities on the subject of diversity and social inclusion.

The pilot schools of Mitrovica and Prizren organised joint activities in their main city squares. The mayors addressed the crowds of participants and called for respect of diversity and social inclusion. The events and activities in many of the pilot schools were covered by the media.
