Back MEDIA ADVISORY: Kick-off event for the new initiative to support national minorities in BiH

All media are invited to cover the kick-off event of the new project on national minorities “Strengthening the protection of national minorities in BiH” on Wednesday, 16th May 2018, in Vijećnica, Obala Kulina bana, Sarajevo.

The launching event will start at 11:00 hrs. Press statements are foreseen before the event from 10:30 to 11:00hrs. We invite media representatives to take statements and cover the key note speeches.

Speakers at the opening session will include Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, Head of the EU Delegation and European Union Special Representative in BiH, Semiha Borovac, Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, Ambassador Drahoslav Stefanek, Head of Council of Europe Office in BiH and Tihomir Knežiček, Chairman of Council of National Minorities in BiH.

The kick-off event will gather representatives of national minorities, representatives of relevant Ministries and representatives of institutions on State, Entity, Cantonal and Brčko levels, together with civil society organisations, international organisations, and other relevant stakeholders. The event will provide a forum for discussion on issues relating to national minority protection and promotion in BiH..

The overall objective of the project which is part of the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme titled “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey", is to enhance protection of the rights of persons belonging to national minorities in BiH in line with the European standards.
