A series of training of trainers sessions for law enforcement and forensic staff in Bosnia and Herzegovina are being organised within the Action "’Strengthening human rights treatment of detained persons based on European standards and best practices". These sessions aim at improving local capacities to deliver human rights-based training. The second session, out of three planned, took place on 13 and 14 November in Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The aim of this training is to raise competencies in interpreting international human rights standards and applying them in local circumstances so to benefit all persons deprived of liberty, regardless of the length and type of their detention. As one police officer underlined it: ‘We have all been asked to deliver training at least once before in our professional lives. The difference now is that we consciously chose to attend these sessions to improve our training competencies’’.

The accredited pool of trainers will further develop training materials and deliver training to their peers until May 2022 for the whole duration of phase II Action.

This activity is organised within the framework of the Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey II - "’Strengthening human rights treatment of detained persons based on European standards and best practices ", co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
