Following the adoption of the Code of Ethics for the employees of the Institute for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions in Montenegro, a series of workshops were organised to familiarize the prison staff with the provisions of the new Code.
Nearly 100 employees of different professional profile learned about the content of the document that sets the basic principles of a sound professional conduct. The workshops were used as an opportunity to introduce the participants to the most important international standards in the field and to analyse their applicability in the national context. Acquirement and application of these principles will ensure better protection of prisoners’ rights, prevention of ill-treatment and corrupt practices.
The Code of Ethics and the workshop were developed within the action “Enhancing human rights protection for detained and sentenced persons in Montenegro”, which is part of the "Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey", a joint programme co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe.
