Brief description of the practice:
The working conditions survey was implemented during the 2017/2018 sporting season. We wanted to highlight certain issues raised by the players in the past such as access to the training room, impact of rugby on day to day life, season scheduling, coping with a job on the side.
The study was implemented in French and English (for a small number of foreign players playing in France). More than 250 players from the eight teams playing in the 1st Division (elite level) were contacted in face to face meetings between February and May 2018. The results were analysed between May and July 2018 and the results published at the end of July 2018.
The results were published along with some proposals on how to improve players’ conditions with some concrete and achievable objectives and some steps that an organisation has to take to reach them. The publication was well-received by the federation, with whom the results were further discussed, for example in the negotiation of the standard contract of the national team players.
