REQUIREMENT TO GET SAFE SPORT IN FEDERATIONS
Country: Spain
Organisation responsible: High Council for Sports
Main topic addressed: Combating gender-based violence
Type of resource/practice: Legislation, policies, standards and guidelines
Discipline: Multi-sport
Target group(s): Spanish Sport Federations
Timing: Since 2014
Language: Spanish
Brief description of the practice:
To fight against sexual abuse and sexual harassment in sports, in 2014 the High Council for Sports decided to incorporate a measure to raise awareness among the federations on sexual harassment.
A new requirement was made for federations to receive public funding from High Council for Sports: that they have a protocol or guideline for the prevention, detection and fight against sexual harassment and sexual abuse, which has to be published.
Information and help were provided from the High Council for Sports to prepare this protocol. Each Federation had to analyse which are the riskiest situations for women or children and they had to commit to finding a solution for them. In addition, they had to assign a person in charge of receiving complaints on this issue.
