Brief description of the practice: Each panel had around four guests who share their experience with a moderator's guidance, followed by a discussion and question and answer session with the audience.

Content and objectives: To provide women with more tools and knowledge to be more effective as a leader. To promote the women's role and possible careers in women’s sport. Encourage and value the role of women in the future of our sporting reality. 
Promote through participation of seminars and forums that can give the whole society examples of success in the various aspects of women's sport.
Alerting and discussing some aspects that condition the participation of women in positions of leadership in sport:

  • Contribute to greater gender equality in sport in Portugal.
  • Contribute even indirectly to the objectives set by the European Commission in its "Gender Equality in Sport - Proposal Equality Actions 2014-2020".
  • Promote and share knowledge about the current situation of women in sport.
  • Reconciliation of sporting activity with professional, personal and family life, through the sharing and exchange of experiences.

Steps/activities of the practice:

  • "What kind of education for gender equality?";
  • “Development of Leadership Competence in Sport ";
  • “The difference of gender in the management of leadership in the sporting environment”;
  • “3 Keys to success in Sustainability Leadership: Courage – Endurance Strategy”
  • “Develop leadership competency in future leaders”.

  • Paula Silva, Professor at the Sports University of the University of Porto;
  • Francisco Neto, Head Coach of the National Women's Football Senior Team Portuguese Football Federation;
  • Margarida Gaspar de Matos, Professor at the University of Human Motricity, Lisbon. Responsible and researcher for over 30 years for the Social Adventure Project.
  • Prof. Dr. Sidónio Serpa, Professor at the University of Human Motricity and Researcher in the field of Sports Psychology for more than 30 years.
  • Kristina Pekkola, president of the Swedish Judo Federation.
  • Laurentino Dias, former Secretary of Government for Youth and Sports.

Resources required: Travel expenses for international and national guests, voluntary expenses, expenses of the organisation and equipment used in the event too.

Achievements and outcomes: Good discussions and good reflections on the new era of women in sport. Good tools for everyone to help the pathway of leadership in Portugal, whether this is followed by a woman or a man. What is important is respect and competence shown and shared for all.

Challenges and limitations: The availability of the guest (schedule time), the registration of the participants at the last minute and the low involvement / participation of members of the Portuguese sports federations.

Follow-up ideas and future plans: Creation of articles and recommendations with statistical data on women in sports, coaches, leaders, athletes for all Portuguese Sports Association. Creation of more opportunities via social media, reflecting the leaders of greater relevance in gender equality. Help to publish more and in a better way, the great feminine references of sport in Portugal with the government and with the Olympic Committee of Portugal.
