Workshop on international standards related to media monitoring during pre-election campaign

Within European Union (EU) funded project on “Promoting freedom, professionalism and pluralism of the media” the Council of Europe (CoE) in cooperation with the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) will organise the workshop on international standards related to media monitoring during pre-election campaign. The event takes place on 3-4 July in Kakheti region, Georgia.

During the workshop the CoE expert will review the best international standards and practices how to conduct the media monitoring in order to identify and qualify the media reporting as positive, negative and neutral one as well as what are the best ways to ensure the fair allocation of air time in the run up to the pre-election campaign. In addition, the participants will become familiar with the challenges facing the media outlets during the direct coverage and indication of different politicians in media reporting as well as regulations and problems concerning the gender stereotypes in media reporting.

The event is organised within the framework of the joint CoE/EU Program “EU/CoE Joint Project Promoting freedom, professionalism and pluralism of the media”. The project was launched in January 2015 and aims to improve freedom, independence, pluralism and diversity of media, to review media legislation and regulation to bring these in line with European standards, including ethical standards for media professionalism as well as to support the implementation of legal frameworks, including remedial actions and to promote the safety of journalists.
