Working together on judicial reform in the Eastern Partnership countries

On 10 September 2015, the Opening Conference of the Process for Regional Dialogue on Judicial reform in the Eastern Partnership Countries will be held in Strasbourg.

The Conference will serve as an launching event for the project on regional dialogue on judicial reform.  The project will gather representatives from the ministries of justice, judiciaries, judiciary self-governing bodies and bar associations of the 6 EaP (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus) to support exchanges on judicial reform issues in order to establish a forum for dialogue and identify good practices and lessons learned.

The opening conference will launch the dialogue process and provide a broad forum for exchanging information and ideas on recent developments, outstanding challenges and lessons learned on judicial reform processes in the wider Council of Europe area; for sharing information on on-going judicial reform processes in the Eastern Partnership countries and to explore venues for potential synergies with the on-going work of relevant Council of Europe bodies.

On the following day, the Regional Steering Group (RSG) of the project, gathering representatives from judiciaries, ministries of justice and bar associations of the six countries, will hold its first meeting dedicated to agree on a work plan and select the most challenging issues to be examined under the project in view of identifying best practices and elaborating recommendations to reinforce the national reform processes.

These events are organized under the Joint Project "Reform of Justice Systems – regional dimension for the 6 EaP countries" which is funded by European Union and the Council of Europe through the Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
