Training seminars for Azerbaijani advocates and judges on Article 10 and Article 11

Two 2-day cascade training sessions for advocates and judges were held on 19-20 July and 21-22 July 2016 in Baku on Article 10 (Freedom of expression) and Article 11 (Freedom of assembly and association) of the European Convention on Human Rights. The training seminars were conducted by an international expert and future trainers of the Academy of Justice of Azerbaijan.

As a result of these training seminars, 32 members of the Collegium of Advocates of Azerbaijan and 21 judges of first instance courts in Baku and regions enhanced their knowledge on the selected articles of the ECHR and the relevant case law of the European Court of Human Rights. Moreover, the trainers of the Academy of Justice benefited from this opportunity to improve their expertise to deliver human rights training for legal professionals.

The activities were organised in the framework of the Projects “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Azerbaijan” and “Freedom of expression and media freedom in Azerbaijan” which are part of the Programmatic Co-operation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.
