Training on the Right to Life under European Convention on Human Rights for prosecutors

On 23 May 2017, the Council of Europe, within a joint project with the European Union, organised a training course for prosecutors on the “Right to life under the European Convention on Human Rights”.

The purpose of the training was to familiarise prosecutors with the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, specifically the notion of positive obligations and procedural obligations derived from the article 2 of the convention. The participants used practical case studies, including relevant case-law against Georgia.

As a result of the training, 25 prosecutors advanced their knowledge on the article 2 of the convention and are capable to apply those standards in their daily operations.

The event was organised within the framework of the European Union/Council of Europe joint Partnership for Good Governance project “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European standards”.
