Training on anti-discrimination for Georgian Judges and Assistant Judges

The Council of Europe in cooperation with the High School of Justice organised 2 two-day training courses  for Georgian Judges and Assistant judges on Georgian and European Standards of anti-discrimination. The courses were held on 16-17 and 18-19 May.

The training sessions aimed to improve judges’ and their assistants’ knowledge on Georgian and European anti-discrimination standards.

Trainings were delivered by international and national human rights experts, Ms. Ivana Roagna – expert on human rights and rule of law, Mr. Irakli Adeishvili, national expert on anti-discrimination And Ms. Ketevan Meskhishvili, judge at Tbilisi Appellate court. Besides the European practice, trainers widely discussed the national legislation and practice on anti-discrimination. During the training, the participants reviewed several cases, specially written for them by the experts.

The trainings took place under the EU/CoE Joint Project "Application of the European Convention of Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European Standards", which is funded through CoE-EU Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus.
