On 30 September the "Support to the Moldovan Bar Association" component of the PCF Project on Strengthening the efficiency of justice and support to lawyers’ profession in the Republic of Moldova supported a workshop for the members of the Moldovan Bar Council, its committees, regional bars and Secretary General. The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of the Moldovan Bar Association to evaluate the implementation of its 2016-2019 Strategy and to plan if further implementation. During the workshop, participants assessed the progress of the Bar’s Strategy, identified difficulties in its implementation and proposed solutions for an improved professional self-governance in line with Council of Europe recommendations and European best practices.

On 1 October, two lawyers' associations created within the Moldovan Bar – namely the Women Lawyers' Association and the Young Lawyers' Association benefited from tailor-made training on strategic planning for their associations. According to Mrs Tiscic, the chair of the Women Lawyers’ Association, ‘the workshop was very relevant and timely. The moderators tailored the workshop to our Association’s needs and we are now ready to formulate our strategy for the advancement of the rights of the women lawyers in the Republic of Moldova and the improvement of the quality and reputation of the profession of lawyer in our country’. As a result of the workshop, the Young Lawyers Association will launch within the next weeks consultations with its members for the association’s strategic development.

The 2016-2019 Strategy was prepared with the support of the Project and was approved by the Moldovan Bar Council in February 2016. The workshop will be conducted by two international consultants in Chisinau, who will moderate the event and share European best practices for bar associations in the field of strategic planning and lawyer self-governance.

The component on the "Support to the Moldovan Bar Association" of the "Strengthening the efficiency of justice and support to lawyers' profession in the Republic of Moldova" project is funded by the Programmatic Cooperation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. The Council of Europe and European Union are working in partnership with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus to help them meet Council of Europe benchmarks in human rights, democracy and the rule of law and improve the lives of citizens.
