The Justice Academy of Azerbaijan and the Gender Equality Unit of the Council of Europe organised a second training seminar on “Ensuring Access to Justice for Women”, which took place in Baku on 9 December 2016. A local and an international trainer led this seminar with 23 judges to discuss international and European standards on access to justice for women.

Emphasis was given to challenging gender stereotypes in judicial practice concerning access to justice for women victims of gender-based violence (domestic violence, sexual violence). Supporting documents included the regional report on barriers, remedies and good practices on women’s access to justice in five Eastern Partnership countries , the Istanbul Convention and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights on women’s rights.

This seminar was part of the regional project Improving women’s access to justice in five Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine).
