Second Steering Committee meeting on combating discrimination in Moldova

On 2 December 2016, the Council of Europe and European Union joint project 'Supporting national efforts for prevention and combating discrimination in Moldova,' part of the Programmatic Co-operation Framework for Eastern Partnership Countries 2015-2017, organised its second Steering Committee meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Council of Europe, European Union Delegation, Council for Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring Equality, Ombudsperson Office, PCF National Coordinator, and also leading non-governmental and international organisations working in the area of human rights.

During the meeting, the achieved results of the project for the period 2015-2016 as well as the plan of activities to be implemented in 2017 were presented, and the beneficiaries thanked the Council of Europe for the implemented activities.

The main objective of the project is to support the alignment of Human Rights policies and practice by ensuring compliance of legislative and regulatory frameworks with European standards and capacity–building for legal professionals and National Human Rights Institutions. The project seeks cooperation with the following national partners: Council for Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring the Equality and Ombudsperson Office.

The project is in line with the CoE Action Plan to support democratic reforms in the Republic of Moldova 2013-2016 and with the priorities of the Association Agenda between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, which contributes to the enhancement of human rights protection and strengthening of anti-discrimination in Moldova.
