Working group meeting on implementation of time management tools in the pilot courts of Azerbaijan

The European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ) cooperates with five pilot courts representing the first instance and the appellate levels of jurisdiction in the Republic of Azerbaijan, including a specialised administrative-economic court. This cooperation has as objective to support the implementation in the courts of Azerbaijan of a number of jointly acknowledged priorities to further improve judicial time management and quality of justice as a public service, through the implementation of specially designed CEPEJ tools*

Following the working group meeting on the implementation of the tools of SATURN - Study and Analysis of Judicial Time Use Research Network,  that took place in Baku on 20-21 July 2016, the representatives of the five pilot courts, of the Ministry of Justice and the Judicial Legal Council of Azerbaijan will travel to Strasbourg to take part to the second working group meeting, which will be carried out on 28 October 2016. At this meeting the CEPEJ experts will present to the participants the Guide for the implementation of the selected CEPEJ tools in the courts of the Republic of Azerbaijan, drawn up on the basis of the results reached as part of the on-going court coaching programme and a close cooperation between Azeri judges and court staff with the experts representing such countries and Slovenia, Estonia Switzerland and The Netherlands. During this event the national partners will present for the first time the progress and challenges encountered by the pilot courts in implementation of the so-called “SATURN priorities”.

The Azerbaijani delegation will be also acquainted with the CEPEJ 2016 Report “European judicial systems - Efficiency and quality of justice”, including the main findings in regard to the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the CEPEJ-STAT - a new interactive database of European judicial statistics.

*The Project "Support to increased efficiency of courts, improved training of judges and judicial self-governance in Azerbaijan” is part of the CoE/EU Eastern Partnership Programmatic Cooperation Framework 2015-2017, financed by the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe.
