Officials, experts and civil society exchange on judicial practices in EaP

On 28 June 2016, three Working Groups gathering representatives from judiciaries, ministries of justice, bar associations and civil society organisations of Eastern Partnership countries, will meet in Chisinau to discuss issues related to: selection, evaluation and promotion of judges; the role of high courts in ensuring harmonisation of judicial practice and equality of arms in civil and criminal proceedings. Discussions will be facilitated by international experts and will aim at exchanging information and views on lessons learned from the region and the wider Council of Europe area; increasing awareness of relevant European and international standards; identifying shared challenges and possible ways in which these could be dealt with.

The meetings are organised in the framework of the project on regional dialogue on judicial reform in the Eastern Partnership Countries, under the joint Council of Europe and European Union Eastern Partnership Programmatic Co-operation Framework (PCF) for 2015-2017.

On 29 June, the Regional Steering Group constituted under the project will hold its third meeting to assess progress in the implementation of the project and plan future activities.
