Meetings and workshop on inter-municipal co-operation for solid waste management

A series of meetings and a workshop on inter-municipal co-operation for solid waste management  took place in Batumi and Keda, Adjara region, on 19-21 September, with the support of the Council of Europe's Centre of Expertise for Local Government Reform. The event was funded by the European Union and co-funded by the Council of Europe, within the Thematic Programme “Strengthening institutional frameworks for local governance” under the Partnership for Good Governance for Eastern Partnership countries 2015-2017.

The activity gathered together representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Adjara Government (Ministry of Finance and Economy), local stakeholders and Council of Europe experts. The latter presented three technical scenarios for the material, personnel and financial requirements of the service waste management service for the three municipalities of Adjara: Khulo, Keda and Shuakhevi. As a result of discussions, a new option combining the first and second ones was developed. The participants also mentioned the possibility to outsource the service waste management related services to a private company at a later stage.
