Judicial staff of Moldova fighting against discrimination

Clerks and assistant judges of Moldova were trained on the concept and forms of discrimination, the protection provided by the European Convention on Human Rights and the Revised European Social Charter, and the Moldovan Law on ensuring equality. They also learned about reversing the burden of proof in discrimination cases, specifics and obstacles in the process of discrimination cases examination.  The participants familiarised themselves with the casework of the Council for Preventing and Eliminating Discrimination and Ensuring Equality of Moldova, presented by its representative Ms Olga Bulmaga. A special session was dedicated to analyse and discuss several  case studies from the perspective of discrimination.

The training was organised on 12 and 13 May in Chisinau and forms part of the Council of Europe and European Union joint project “Supporting national efforts for prevention and combating discrimination in Moldova”, in cooperation with the National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova.

The training courses were delivered by the Council of Europe’s consultants - Mr Istvan Haller and Ms Olesea Perean.
