On 5 July 2016, a round table event took place in Moldova on presentation of legal opinions and Council of Europe recommendations on amendments to the legal framework of Moldovan data the protection legal framework, organised jointly by the Council of Europe together with the National Centre for the Protection of Personal Data of the Republic of Moldova.
The event supports the development and effective implementation of Council of Europe standards and European best practices with reference to national legislation and the regulatory framework of personal data protection.
The legal expertise identifies main challenges and provides recommendations for the further improvement of the national legislation in accordance with the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (Convention 108) and European best practices.
The round table gathered more than 80 participants among them eminent experts in the field of right to privacy and data protection, international organisations guests, civil society and national experts, representatives of Moldovan Presidency, Parliament and Government including national law-enforcement.
The participants actively engaged in sharing their opinions and dialogues with Council of Europe experts during the debates and discussions session.
The roundtable is organised within the framework of the joint CoE/EU project “Enhance the right to data protection”. The project was launched in January 2015 and aims to enhance the compliance of data protection legislation, regulations and policy in line with international and European data protection standards, to secure the highest level of protection of individuals, including through the effective oversight of the implementation of the legislation in all Eastern Partnership countries.
