Georgian judges improve their knowledge on ECHR standards

On 25-27 November, Council of Europe in cooperation with the USAID-funded project Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia (EWMI-PROLoG) and the High school of Justice (HSOJ) organised a training session on human rights for fifteen Georgian judges.

Training session was delivered by five Georgian judges who have successfully accomplished the training of trainers sessions previously held as a part of this activity. The peer to peer approach proved as very successful and lead to rich discussions on various human rights related issues.

As a result of the training session, the participants enhanced knowledge on the ECHR standards and the case-law of the European Court of human rights that would contribute to better protection of human rights at the national level.

The training session was  conducted within the framework of the European Union – Council of Europe joint project “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and harmonisation of national legislation and judicial practice in Georgia in line with European standards”, being implemented under the EU-CoE Programmatic Cooperation Framework.
