Enhancing the right to data protection in Georgia

On 14 April 2016, the Council of Europe (CoE) in partnership with the Personal Data Protection Inspector of Georgia will hold a roundtable discussion on the Draft Amendments to the Law of Georgia on Personal Data Protection and Council of Europe Experts’ Opinion on the Draft.

Within the framework of the EU/CoE Joint Regional Project “Enhance the Right to Data Protection” the Council of Europe has conducted the legal review of the Compliance of the Personal Data Protection Law of Georgia and Relevant Draft Amendments with the CoE Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (Convention 108). The legal expertise identifies main challenges and provides recommendations for the further improvement of the national legislation in accordance with the Council of Europe standards and European best practices.

The roundtable is organised within the framework of the joint CoE/EU Program “Enhance the right to data protection”. The project was launched in January 2015 and aims to enhance the compliance of data protection legislation, regulations and policy in line with international and European data protection standards, to secure the highest level of protection of individuals, including through the effective oversight of the implementation of the legislation in all Eastern Partnership countries.
