Freedom of the media and the role of EaP Parliaments

A conference on national parliaments’ role in improving freedom, independence, transparency and the diversity of the media, organised in cooperation with the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly's Sub-Committee on Media and Information Society and hosted by the British Parliament, will be held in the House of Commons in London on 11 April 2016. The purpose of this conference is to provide an opportunity for a review and an exchange of views on existing national laws on media freedom, independence, transparency and diversity, and for discussions on possible reforms.

National parliamentary delegations from Eastern Partnership states will be present along with representatives from media regulators, public service broadcasters, media outlets and media freedom NGOs.

The activity is organised by the Assembly as part of the Council of Europe/European Union joint programme of co-operation with the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus).
