Data protection rights in the Eastern Partnership

"Enhancing the Right to Data Protection in Eastern Partnership Countries" was the objective of this International Conference (Tbilisi, Georgia, 14-15 December 2016). The event brought together for the first time representatives of Eastern Partnership countries who benefit from the "Programmatic Cooperation Framework" (PCF). The PCF's activities foster the implementation of national reforms in order to meet the standards of the European Union and the Council of Europe. One of Council of Europe’s goals is to enhance the right to data protection by working in close cooperation with several countries.

The conference presented the latest advances in international and European standards, and highlighted the role of data protection authorities with regard to the protection of persons, identifying the needs of each delegation from Eastern Partnership countries and the 2017 priorities. Moreover, the conference encouraged cohesion within the international network, ensuring the effective implementation of the planned actions.
