Cascade training seminars for advocates in Azerbaijan

Two cascade training seminars were organised by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Academy of Justice and the Collegium of Advocates of Azerbaijan, which took place in Baku on 24-25 January and 26-27 January 2017. The trainings were dedicated to admissibility criteria in applications submitted to the European Court of Human Rights and the right to property under the European Convention on Human Rights.

As a result of the training seminars, 48 advocates enhanced their capacity in submitting applications to the Strasbourg Court, learned how to complete the form in order to make a valid application, as well as increased their knowledge on the selected Article of the Convention and the relevant case-law of the European Court of Human Rights. The training courses were led by the certified trainers of the 'Training of Trainers Programme' who improved effectively their trainer skills while delivering training for their peers.

The activities were organized within the framework of the Project “Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in Azerbaijan” which is part of the Programmatic Co-operation Framework for Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe.

To date, 524 advocates and 168 judges of first instance and appeal courts have been trained on various European Convention on Human Rights standards as a result of a series of cascade training sessions organized within the Project.
