Series of trainings on freedom of expression and privacy for journalists in the regions of Azerbaijan

Three training sessions on freedom of expression and privacy for journalists and representatives of civil society were organised in the three regions of Azerbaijan – Ganja, Shamkir and Tovuz on 18-21 April 2017 within the framework of the joint EU/CoE project “Freedom of expression and media freedom”, in close cooperation with the Azerbaijani Press Council.

The main aim of the trainings was to raise awareness on the European standards on freedom of expression and the right to privacy among journalists and representatives of civil society from the regions and to give the floor to open discussions. The training sessions were conducted by experienced local experts, who made presentations on the Council of Europe and European Court of Human Rights standards on freedom of expression and the right to privacy, journalism ethics in the context of freedom of expression and privacy as well as on some aspects of Azerbaijani legislation on freedom of expression and privacy issues.

About 90 journalists and representatives of civil society from the regions trained on the Council of Europe standards on freedom of expression and the right to privacy and took an active part in discussions.
